Penn State vs. Michigan State 2017 live stream: Start time and how to watch online

Which team will land in the No. 2 spot among the Big Ten East division?

NCAA Football: Michigan State at Penn State Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Well, the Penn State Nittany Lions fell from grace last week with their first loss of the season, to Ohio State. They’ll face another Big Ten team that also saw its first conference loss of the year, the Michigan State Spartans, this Saturday at noon ET on FOX (live stream).

Both teams will be looking for redemption, with Penn State motivated once again by getting slighted by the Buckeyes, and the Spartans fresh off their first conference loss — second overall loss — of the season. Michigan State forced Northwestern into three overtimes last week, before falling 39-31, and will be looking to prevent any more one-score finishes — having already had five this season.

Penn State vs. Michigan State news:

Lewerke is an above-average quarterback and ranks in the top half in the Big Ten in passing average, passing efficiency, and total offense. He’s led the Spartans to a 6-2 record, bowl eligible, and led the team in a win over Michigan.

But in the end, none of it has been enough.

As magical as last season felt, this year felt similar. Laying waste to Pitt, pulling one out in Iowa, and clobbering Michigan in front of nearly 111,000 fans — this team just seemed to have “it.” Despite a shaky offensive line or a defense filled with former three-star recruits, Penn State was marching its way through the 2017 season, and the next stop was the National Championship.

This program was coming off a 3-9 campaign. This program lost a ton of players to attrition throughout the offseason. This program is chock-full of freshmen and sophomores starting and is extremely young. To tell the truth, the Spartans have overachieved, and, as a fan, I think we should be happy with where this team is currently.

Fighting for second place in the Big Ten East

Before last weekend, there were three teams still undefeated in Big Ten conference play in the East division alone: Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State. With the Nittany Lions’ loss to the Buckeyes and the Spartans coming up short against Northwestern, Ohio State has taken hold of the No. 1 spot.

Now, two scorned teams will face off in Week 10 for the second-place spot in their division. That doesn’t exactly lend to any sort of bragging rights among such a crowded — and high-ranked — conference, but with four games left (and Ohio State still having to face bitter rival Michigan at the end of November) the Nittany Lions could find themselves still in the title game discussion.

Penn State vs. Michigan State prediction:

The Nittany Lions still plan to plead their case to the College Football Playoff committee, and a big win over the Spartans could start the momentum shift to recover from last week’s one-point loss to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions get the win, and in spectacular fashion — they’ve got a point to prove after all.
