Who’s playing in the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl?
TCU (6-6, 4-5 in Big 12)
The Horned Frogs are bad at offense, but they still have a top-25 defense, because Gary Patterson’s their coach and of course they do. This looked like one of the worst TCU teams in a while, but credit where due: The Frogs put together back-to-back quality showings in their last two games to beat Baylor and Oklahoma State and avoid missing the postseason. One potential issue: Six of the top seven tacklers are seniors. But that’s an issue for after this bowl game. TCU fans should enjoy the moment.
Cal (7-5, 4-5 in Pac-12)
Cal has reinvented itself under Justin Wilcox, transitioning in two years from Sonny Dykes’ points-bonanza offense and bad defense to horrible offense but excellent defense. Overall, it’s worked, and the Bears have gotten themselves to a bowl for the first time since 2015 despite having one of the worst offenses in the country. They’re not a great watch for viewers who care about scoring, but they are effective. And with 10 of their top 14 tacklers eligible beyond this year, they should keep being effective.
Where is the Cheez-It Bowl?
Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz., home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In August 2018, the bowl announced Cheez-It as the game’s new title sponsor. Yes, this is hilarious and great!
