An individual time trial will be held for the first time at the Vuelta a Espana on Friday. An individual run from Xabia to Calp over a distance of just 37 kilometers, the general classification comes down to gaps between racers, hence why the stage could make a big difference.
Then again, it's such an easy ride and even with the sore legs throughout the pack, everyone riding on Friday should be able to handle things. It's an opportunity to improve one's position, but it doesn't necessarily represent a massive change in fortunes.
Still, an individual sprint over that short distance will make for good viewing, and it will be one of the more interesting and unique stages in the Vuelta this year. This stage is among the flattest in this year's Vuelta. Riders will want to conserve their energy regardless, however, as there is a tough mountain stage on the horizon.
