Christian Ponder looking for bounce back after lousy fantasy effort

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder may be called on more frequently to move the offense on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We break down the fantasy implications.

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder could be forced to throw the ball more than usual on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As Pro Football Weekly points out, the Buccaneers rank third in the league in rushing defense and are allowing a league-low 3.1 yards per carry.

The Vikings will, of course, turn first to Adrian Peterson, who is coming off a 153-yard effort in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals. Ponder, however, threw for just 58 yards and has thrown two interceptions in three straight games. The Buccaneers are 31st in the league against the pass.

Fantasy Impact: This would seem to be the game for Ponder to start playing well again but the Vikings (and fantasy owners) would be wise to trust Adrian Peterson more than Minnesota's quarterback.

Tampa Bay has allowed a lot of fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks but the Vikings will likely try and pound away with Peterson before turning to Ponder to make plays. He is a No. 2 fantasy quarterback this week.
