Fantasy Football Rankings, Week 13: Wide receivers in standard and PPR leagues

These are the weeks that make or break a fantasy title. And no position is a tougher call than wide receiver. Click here to see who you should be starting.

Andy Lyons

No position in fantasy football is more frustrating than wide receiver. Consider Green Bay Packer wide, James Jones. He is leading the Pack in touchdown catches, and then puts up a big, fat zero in Week 12, when you really need him. Ugh. Who can you trust? Let's try to not "chase stats" and instead consider the match-up information, along with target data, below. Both are becoming more and more important as we evaluate which wide receivers are the favorites for their respective quarterbacks. And of course, a general notes section will highlight some important points for the week. Let's start right there:

NOTES:

  • Dez Bryant is finally becoming the player that I projected him to be in the off season. He is clearly Tony Romo's go to guy and he's coming down with the ball. Consider his last three games: 31 targets with 4 touchdowns.
  • With Nate Burleson out injured and Titus Young out because of stupidity, It appears that Ryan Broyles is the clear No. 2 in Detroit. And now that Stafford has remembered how to throw to WR's, he may be a sneaky waiver and start to finish out the year.
  • These guys had a disappointing Week 12 and we have to wonder what the future brings: Miles Austin (0-yards, injured), James Jones (0-yards), Michael Crabtree (26-yards), Brandon Lloyd (26-yards), Mike Williams TB (28-yards) and Larry Fitzgerald (31-yards).
  • Keep an eye on these wide receivers that are battling through injury: Greg Jennings, Julio Jones, Wes Welker, Percy Harvin, Danny Amendola, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Miles Austin and Andre Roberts.
  • The bye weeks are over, so feel free to start everyone.

TARGETS:

Just as I mentioned, fantasy wide receiver scoring can be fluky. But, one thing that you can't argue with is targets. See the chart below showing the Year-To-Date and Week 12 target leaders:

FANTASY POINTS ALLOWED (FPA):

FPA is a great judge of the strength of a future match-up. The number next to the teams' name represents how many fantasy points that team is giving up to the entire receiving corps on an average weekly basis. Obviously, you want your guy to play against a team that is allowing a LOT of points to WR's:

Best Defense Against Opposing WR's

Worst Defense Against Opposing WR's

PIT Steelers (15.94 pts allowed)

TB Bucs (28.75 pts allowed)

SEA Seahawks (16.99 pts allowed)
