Colin Kaepernick blew away the Chargers in his fourth preseason game of the year, completing 12 of 18 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns in one half of play. After officially being named the No. 2 quarterback on the roster by Jim Harbaugh, Kaepernick will be exiting preseason play on his most impressive performance yet.

Analysis: The 49ers saw Alex Smith really come into his own last season, and now Kaepernick appears to be making great strides in his second pro season. After busting off a 78-yard rushing touchdown in the first game of 2012, Kaepernick continues to prove his big play ability, tossing a 32-yard score to Delanie Walker in the first quarter San Francisco's matchup with San Diego. Kaepernick could be someone to keep in mind as a sleeper. Smith's contract can be terminated in the spring of any of the upcoming seasons to avoid huge roster bonuses, so if he doesn't pan out Kaepernick will surely step in.
