We're back for Week 3 of the 2012 NFL season. The Giants and Panthers got things going on Thursday with Eli Manning put up another big game, and Cam Newton leaving fantasy owners shaking their head following a stinker performance. But now we have the main course. Whether you are flipping around your Sunday Ticket, or enjoying it all on the Red Zone channel, there is a full slate of games to enjoy today.
We have been providing you with rankings all week long, but as Sunday dawns, it would be helpful to have some projections as well. Our Week 3 quarterback rankings are based on our pool of knowledge and often a bit of gut instinct. To improve your chances this year, we are going to provide Sunday projections courtesy of the folks at numberFire. numberFire uses series of mathematical models, to break down the action and figure out who exactly is performing well. They use the power of predictive and regressive modeling to more accurately project future performance.
One of the most prominent differences has numberFire projecting Robert Griffin III as the No. 8 QB this week, and SB Nation Fantasy ranking him No. 3. One other big differences is SB Nation Fantasy ranking Ben Roethlisberger No. 14, while numberFire projects him as the No. 4 QB this weekend against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders secondary has its issues, which numberFire seems to take a bit less seriously.
numberFire claims a higher predictive rate than the major companies (ESPN, CBS, Yahoo!). However, as with anything in fantasy football, we at SB Nation Fantasy view numberFire as one more weapon in your arsenal to claim victory. The numbers can help over the long term, but there are enough variables week-to-week that multiple sources can provide great value.
