Fantasy football waiver advice, Week 10: Case Keenum

Is it time to start taking Case Keenum seriously as a fantasy asset?

Thomas B. Shea

Not much was expected out of Case Keenum when the Houston Texans named him the starting quarterback, but the second-year player out of the University of Houston has been a pleasant surprise. He had his coming-out party against the Indianapolis Colts last week, completing 20-of-34 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns in a narrow loss.

Through two games, Keenum has now completed 59 percent of his passes for 621 yards and four touchdowns. More importantly, he has thrown zero interceptions, one of Matt Schaub's biggest problems. The Texans are sticking with him as the starter now.

Fantasy impact: Keenum is still owned in just 11 percent of Yahoo! leagues, but that number should change quickly over the coming week. The Texans face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, and after that Keenum has juicy matchups against the Raiders and Jaguars.

Keenum's numbers may regress a bit now that opponents have game film on him, but he has a good shot at being a reliable QB2 down the stretch run. At the least, you have a good shot at picking up a reliable bye-week fill-in on the cheap. Pick him up while you can.
