San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead played well in Week 12, carrying the ball six times for 25 yards and catching four passes for 45 yards. He also had one rushing and one receiving touchdown. Woodhead has often flashed talent here and there, but has struggled to be consistently effective as a runner.
But he's always been effective receiving out of the backfield. He has caught more than five passes in a game on four separate occasions this season, at times catching more passes than he had carries. Ryan Matthews, the starting running back, sustained an injury recently and that's why Woodhead got so many touches.
Fantasy Sit/Start: Woodhead has worked himself into relevance due to his added production in the passing game. Add in the injury to Matthews and there was some potential at the beginning of the week. That said, Matthews is probable for the team's Week 13 game and that makes Woodhead a tough sell. The Chargers will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13, and Woodhead should probably ride the bench for this one.
