Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 15: Antonio Gates a low-risk option

Antonio Gates has been a little quiet despite the Chargers putting up points. Will he be able to put up fantasy points on the short week?

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sport

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates has cooled off a little in the second half of the season. In the last eight games, Gates has failed to top 74 receiving yards in any game while scoring just once in that span. Interestingly, he's been targeted at least six times, so the lack of putting up a big game is surprising. Furthermore, he had three 10-target games in that span and still couldn't turn in a big game.

Fantasy impact: The Chargers will take on the Broncos in the short week at Sports Authority Field. They've been vulnerable to tight ends all season with a ranking of 25 in fantasy points allowed to that position They've given up scores to tight ends in three of the last four games even though Rob Gronkowski is the only quality tight end over that span. Still, it's not going to be easy to play Gates on a short week.

He's coming in cold and the Broncos will likely have him on their radar in the big game. He's more of a high-end TE2 and a guy like Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta might be a play with more upside.
