Ben Tate expected to start for Texans, fantasy owners

The Houston Texans will hand the keys to the backfield to Ben Tate once again this week, as the running back continues to deal with broken ribs. We break down the fantasy implications.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans running back Ben Tate is listed as probable for the team's matchup versus the Indianapolis Colts.

Tate has been dealing with broken ribs for weeks, and was limited in practice on Wednesday. That has been the norm for Tate since his injury, and leaves him in no danger of missing action, hence the "probable" designation. As a result, Tate remains on track to resume his usual workload, which has been plentiful despite his health and the fact that the Texans sit at 2-11.

Fantasy Spin: Versus a Colts defense that has allowed the 10th most yards to opposing running backs this season, there will be room for Tate to run. But with the season-long sputtering of the Texans offense, it's difficult to expect Tate to capitalize in a plus matchup, despite his ability. That remains the case after the Colts held Tate to just 3.7 yards per carry during their last meeting in Houston, leaving Tate's work cut out for him. With injuries aplenty at the running back position this week, Tate makes for a solid RB2 option with upside.
