Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 16: Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas

The Saints don't exactly get the best matchup on the road against the Panthers. Should fantasy owners be looking elsewhere this week?

Cue up the cliches, folks. The New Orleans Saints are one of the most potent offenses in the NFL and will take on one of the toughest defenses, the Carolina Panthers, in a huge Week 16 showdown.

The Saints offense really hit the skids last week against the St. Louis Rams in what could be viewed as their worst game of the season. The scored just 16 points against a somewhat weak defense in an indoor setting. Their rushing game was non-existent with just 61 yards on the ground, and Jimmy Graham was shut down.

While the Saints could have success moving the ball through the air this week, there really is nothing to like about their ground game. The Panthers have allowed the fewest rushing yards per game on the season and simply do not give up big plays on the ground.

Fantasy impact: The previous statement basically rules out Pierre Thomas as an option in just about any league. However, Darren Sproles could be a decent play considering how he'll be used on passing downs, which should be about 65 percent of snaps. Sproles is an RB2 in PPR formats and a flex in standard leagues this week.
