Adrian Peterson injury: Vikings RB doubtful, likely won't play for fantasy owners

Adrian Peterson is doubtful for Week 17. We break down the fantasy implications.

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is listed a doubtful for the team's Week 17 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Peterson is dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of the team's Week 16 game. He was also listed as doubtful in that game, though he did say he wanted to play beforehand.

Peterson is too valuable a player to risk serious injury to at this point, which is why he was sat in Week 16. Toby Gerhart also sat, and will be out for Week 17. The Vikings will start Matt Asiata, who also started in Week 16. Asiata had three touchdowns but minimal yardage in Week 16, but touchdowns are touchdowns.

Fantasy Impact: The Vikings aren't fighting for a playoff spot or anything of the sort, so there's really no point in playing Peterson. For fantasy owners who made it this far with Peterson's help, they're losing him at the worst time. He's not likely to play, so keep whatever backup you used in Week 16 or find one that's better, at this point. He will not play, unless he sneaks his way onto the field wearing someone else's jersey.
