Shane Vereen injury update: RB questionable for fantasy owners

The Patriots running back is listed as questionable and could play in Week 17. We break down the fantasy implications.

New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen (groin) is listed as questionable and is likely heading towards a game-time decision for the team's Week 17 game against the Buffalo Bills. Vereen practiced on a limited basis all week and his status is not yet clear.

Fantasy Impact: The Patriots are well known for being tight-lipped on injuries and owners likely won't have a read on Vereen's status until shortly before game time. Vereen has been much more of a PPR than standard asset in his six games since his return from a wrist injury. He has rushed for just over 100 yards and one touchdown in that span but has caught 37 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns. It was believed that Vereen's value would receive a boost when star tight end Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL and MCL in Week 14 but that has not yet been the case.

Vereen will take on an underrated Buffalo run defense if he plays. His 19 rushing yards and four receptions for 12 yards over the last two weeks are cause for concern. Vereen remains a high-upside RB2 in PPR formats and owners need to continue to monitor the situation.
