Rashad Jennings inactive for Raiders, fantasy owners

The Oakland Raiders will be without its first and second-string running backs for their Week 14 matchup with the New York Jets, and Marcel Reece will get the start. We break down the fantasy implications.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Oakland Raiders running back Rashad Jennings is inactive for the team's Week 14 matchup with the New York Jets due to a concussion, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

The Raiders will also be without Darren McFadden, who has missed four games this season with an ankle injury and also exited three games early. As a result, the Raiders will start usual fullback Marcel Reece at tailback, and recently converted cornerback Taiwan Jones could see action at his old position as well. Reece is no stranger to playing tailback, as he started twice in relief of Darren McFadden in 2012 and posted a 193-yard performance versus the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Spin: Unfortunately, Reece does not have the 2012 Saints lining up across from him this week, but instead has the top-ranked rushing defense of the New York Jets. The Jets have allowed league-low averages of 2.9 yards per carry and 77 rushing yards per game, and present a nightmarish matchup against a Raiders team that has Pro Football Focus' third-lowest run-blocking grade.

Snatching-up backup running backs on the waiver wire can prove to be a savvy move for fantasy owners in the event they are thrust into starting roles, but Reece is not a savvy play this week. He is worth a roster spot in the event Jennings can't take the field in Week 15 versus the Kansas City Chiefs, but won't be worth a high-priority waiver bid.
