Week 1 of the NFL season brought us plenty of scoring and plenty of surprise performances from several wide receivers, lead by 49ers WR Anquan Boldin. Looking back, I was a bit too low on him in my Week 1 rankings (as one reader pointed out), so he makes a big move in our Week 2 rankings. He is coming off a game where he caught 13 receptions on 17 targets for 208 yards and one touchdown. He has a tough matchup on the road in Seattle on Sunday Night football, but I am fine with my No. 10 ranking in standard leagues and No. 5 ranking in PPR leagues. He is the top receiver in the San Francisco offense and he should continue to be Colin Kapernick's top target on Sunday.
Speaking of No. 1 receivers, we have a new No. 1 wide receiver atop our Week 2 rankings, with Bengals WR A.J. Green moving up a couple spots coming off his huge Week 1 performance. Green caught nine of his 13 targets for 162 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Bears defense last week. This week, Green goes up against the Steelers pass defense, which gave up just 8 fantasy points to the TItans wide receivers last week.
Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas made the most of his five receptions, as two of them went for touchdowns, one going for 78 yards. All told, he had 162 yards receiving and remains one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, especially with Peyton Manning behind center. He has a solid matchup this week vs the Giants.
Target Practice
When working on my rankings, I also like to take a look at receivers who saw plenty of targets in their last game. Here is a list of wide receivers who saw 10 or more targets last week:

A couple surprises on this list include Dolphins WR Brian Hartline, Patriots WR Kenbrell Thompkins and Cowboys WR Miles Austin. I can see Austin continuing to see double digit targets, especially if Dez Bryant can't suit up on Sunday in Kansas City. Thompkins also should see plenty of targets with Danny Amendola already ruled out for Thursday's game vs the Jets. Teammate Julian Edelman scored two touchdowns last week and figures to see double digit targets at the very least.
After Hartline's teammate Mike Wallace spouted off after Sunday's game for the lack of targets, I see QB Ryan Tannehill targeting Wallace quite a bit on Sunday on the turf in Indianapolis.
Two Wide Receivers Who Could Surprise
One wide receiver who could surprise this week is Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe. He faces a Cowboys secondary which gave up 51 fantasy points vs the Giants last week. Bowe doesn't have Eli Manning throwing the ball to him, but he should be able to get open vs the Cowboys in the Chiefs first home game of the season.
I dropped Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant in our rankings because of his mild foot sprain and ineffectiveness last Sunday night vs the Giants. He has to face Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers in Kansas City on Sunday, but could outperform his lowered ranking with a few more targets. I previously wrote that he could leap over Calvin Johnson as the best WR in football this season, but Week 1 was a disappointment for his owners. A big Week 2 could move him up these rankings next week.
Now let's take a look at our Week 2 wide receiver rankings:
Update: I have updated my rankings for Dez Bryant and Roddy White based on recent reports that Bryant practiced in full and White missed practice on Thursday.
