Doug Martin misses practice, likely to sit out as fantasy value drops

The former first round pick has been ineffective all year long, and he's still battling through injury troubles. We break down the fantasy implications.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (ankle) did not participate in practice on Wednesday, according to the team's official website. Martin did not play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9 and should be considered questionable for this week's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Impact: Coming into the 2013 season, Martin was a popular first round draft pick in fantasy leagues due the fact that he had a spectacular rookie campaign in 2012. Then he tore his labrum and everything went downhill from there.

It's not all his fault, as the Bucs haven't had any real consistency at the quarterback position going back to the Josh Freeman days.

That said, fantasy football is a 'what have you done for me lately' world and Martin has little to know value at this time even in deeper leagues. Given the Bucs are probably best looking towards 2015 and changes at quarterback are once again imminent, Bobby Rainey and rookie Charles Sims are next up on the fantasy radar.

Sims' appearance in Sunday's game would be his NFL debut. Martin's owners, on the other hand, are safe to move on for now.
