After disappointing showings from quarterbacks Jake Locker and Charlie Whitehurst, the Tennessee Titans have turned to rookie Zach Mettenberger for the rest of the season.
Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick out of LSU, made his first start against the Houston Texans in Week 8. He had the typical rookie mistakes but finished strong, albeit in garbage time once the Titans fell behind, 30-9. Mettenberger finished with 299 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 27-of-41 passing. The Titans had their bye in Week 9, giving Mettenberger two full weeks of practice with the first team.
Fantasy impact: The Titans face the Baltimore Ravens on the road. It's not as imposing as Mettenberger's first start when he went up against J.J. Watt. The Ravens' defense has looked vulnerable without top cornerback Jimmy Smith and is allowing 263.2 passing yards per game, ninth-most in the league.
With six teams on bye, Mettenberger almost has to be considered in two-quarterback leagues. In standard 12- and 14-team leagues, he's more of a risky QB2 play, but the potential for yards is there with his big arm and the deep-threat ability of Justin Hunter.
