A.J. Green sits out practice, but expected to be good for fantasy owners

The Cincinnati Bengals’ top target was on the sidelines for practice Wednesday. We break down the fantasy impact.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green showed up on the team’s injury report Wednesday with a calf issue and sat on the sidelines in practice, according Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Green was seen limping during the Bengals’ Week 5 loss in Dallas and momentarily left the game. However, the five-time Pro Bowler did return to that game and was not in Cincinnati’s post-game injury report. He was held to 50 yards on eight targets Sunday.

Green is having a good start to the season otherwise. He has 36 receptions for over 500 yards and two touchdowns through five weeks, catching well over 100 yards in two of those games. Green is expected to play in Week 6 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Impact: Green’s calf injury does not seem to be too serious and the sixth-year wideout may just be taking a maintenance day this week. The Bengals are not issuing much news about the injury which is a good sign for fantasy owners. The only thing owners need to really worry about is what defense Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will use to shut the deep threat down.

Keep an eye on Green’s status Thursday. In the long shot Green cannot play, Alex Erickson will take over his slot.
