Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter announced Wednesday that running back Doug Martin will not play in Week 7, according to team beat writer Scott Smith. Martin suffered a setback to his hamstring injury over the weekend of the team’s bye week and has no apparent timetable for a return.
The five-year back re-injured the chronic hamstring injury in Week 2 against Arizona and has been sidelined since that loss. He was expected to return from a month-long absence this week as the Bucs returned from their bye. Martin is week-to-week to return.
Fantasy Impact: Martin’s setback comes at the worst time for his fantasy owners. It was highly anticipated that he would return following Tampa Bay’s bye week.
The Bucs will go back to six-year veteran Jacquizz Rodgers for the start in Martin’s absence. Rodgers was promoted to starter last week after the Bucs placed Charles Sims on IR for the remainder of the season.
Rodgers rushed for over 100 yards in his 2016 starting debut. He is an RB1 option in an upside matchup against a depleted 49ers defensive front Sunday.
