Editor’s update: Lacy has been placed on IR. Knile Davis likely holds more long-term value, but Montgomery remains worth watching.
The Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football in Week 7, and we will see an intriguing change at the running back position. The Packers ruled Eddie Lacy out due to an ankle injury, leaving them significantly short-handed at the position.
Wide receiver Ty Montgomery is expected to “get the majority of the RB reps” for Thursday Night Football, according to ESPN Packers’ reporter Rob Demovsky. Lacy suffered his ankle injury in Week 5, but played in Week 6. He got 17 carries, but was clearly slowed by the ankle injury.
Montgomery got three carries in that game, and fullback Aaron Ripkowski got a carry. Following the game, the Packers acquired running back Knile Davis in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy impact: Everybody is making a beeline for Montgomery on the waiver wire. Bye weeks and injuries are leaving fantasy owners scrambling for any option they can find on waivers.
Lacy’s long-term prognosis is still to be determined, which means Montgomery is a must-grab if you are short-handed at running back your flex position.
