Tony Romo will not return after bye week, fantasy implications high

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has not been cleared for full practice. We break down the fantasy impact.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has not been cleared to return to full practice and will require another MRI for clearance, according to Jason La Canfora with CBS Sports. Romo has missed the entire 2016 regular season since breaking his back in Week 3 of preseason against the Seattle Seahawks.

If Romo gets a go ahead to practice this week, he is still not expected to play Week 8 against division rival Philadelphia. The 13-year veteran has made progress in his recovery, but the Cowboys do not expect to have their top QB back for several more weeks. There is no word on when Romo will have his next MRI.

Once he returns, the four-time Pro Bowler will be in a quarterback battle with rookie Dak Prescott. The Cowboys are 5-1 with Prescott leading the offense.

Fantasy Impact: At this point, Romo may not return to his starting role with Dallas. Every week that he’s unable to return to practice, Prescott looks better leading the Cowboys offense.

When Romo is finally cleared to practice, it will still take a couple weeks before he could play. The earliest it looks like he may be available is Week 11. If Prescott continues to perform well, Romo might just be a backup going forward.
