Rashad Jennings out Monday night for fantasy owners

The New York Giants starting running back will not play Monday night. We break down the fantasy impact.

New York Giants starting running back Rashad Jennings (thumb) is out for the team’s Monday night meeting with the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Jennings was questionable and limited in practice all week as he recovers from a left thumb injury that he suffered in Week 2. Last Monday, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that there was optimism for the eighth-year veteran’s return in the wake of losing backup RB Shane Vareen for the season with a triceps injury. Jennings wore a cast and padding in practice all week, but the Giants were concerned with his ability to catch the football and pass protect, according to Raanan. This is Jennings’ second straight missed game.

Fantasy Impact: This should not be a surprise to Jennings’ fantasy owners. The starter has not had a full practice in over two weeks since dealing with this thumb issue. There does not seem to be a concrete timeline for Jennings to return. While he is out, third-string RB Orleans Darkwa will get the start and fourth-string RB Bobby Rainey will see a lot more action, as well. Look for both players to be popular waiver pickups this week.
