The Arizona Cardinals will not have starting quarterback Carson Palmer Thursday night for the team’s division meeting with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Kevin Patra with NFL.com. Palmer suffered a concussion on Sunday in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams and has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol since. The three-time Pro Bowler did not practice all week and will not travel with the team to Santa Clara.
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians thought there was a shot Palmer would be cleared to play against the 49ers Wednesday, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. The 13-year veteran is considered day-to-day until he is cleared by an independent neurologist. He is expected to be able to return Week 6 against the New York Jets.
Fantasy Impact: It was wishful thinking for Palmer to return to action under the NFL’s concussion protocol on a short week. However, owners should get him back for Monday Night Football in Week 6 if he suffers no additional setbacks. Drew Stanton will run the show in Palmer’s absence.
