Coming into this season, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will be looking to continue his progression as one of the best young signal callers in the entire NFL. Carr had an impressive sophomore campaign in 2015 that saw him throw for 32 touchdowns and just under 4,000 yards.
During Carr’s 16 starts last year, he threw at least two touchdowns 11 times and his passing yardage topped at least 300 in six of those games. For Week 1 of the 2016 regular season, Carr and the Raiders get to play a New Orleans Saints squad that allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for at least 300 yards 10 times in 2015.
Fantasy Impact: Carr’s matchup with the Saints has led him to being the fifth-ranked quarterback by Yahoo! this week in terms of fantasy projections. They see Oakland’s young gunslinger throwing for around 275 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans on Sunday.
Carr is one of only four quarterbacks this week that Yahoo! has projected to finish the day with multiple touchdown passes. A career-best game could be in order for him since it is still hard to believe that the Saints’ pass defense has improved much from last season.
