Fantasy football start/sit, Week 9: What to do with Bilal Powell on Thursday night

Powell’s fantasy value takes a dive with the Jets’ backfield struggling.

New York Jets running back Bilal Powell has struggled to get things going since his calf injury in Week 6 and the team is not giving him a lot of opportunities to turn things around. Sunday, Powell got his first double-digit-carry game since Week 4. Week 8, The Jets split the snaps between Powell and veteran Matt Forte evenly. Powell out-touched Forte by 10 more carries, but Forte had the edge on passes with six receptions to Powell’s three. Even with over twice as many carries, Powell only rushed for 33 yards in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Things get much harder for Powell Thursday night. The Bills defense is a wall against the run. They have only given up 496 rushing yards to opposing running backs so far this season. They are marginally more generous to pass-catchers out of the backfield allowing 354 passing yards to opposing running backs. Rushers have only scored five times vs. the Bills through seven games.

Fantasy impact: Powell has very little fantasy appeal this week. His stock was already light because the Jets are forcing him into this timeshare with Forte. Thursday, he will have limited touches against a great defense. Powell has nothing going for him this week.

Recommendation: Sit
