Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota showed up on the team’s injury report with soreness and a mild ankle sprain Monday after being sacked by the Cincinnati Bengals defense four times Sunday — and all of those hits come in the second half of the Titans’ win.
Mariota finished the game with 24 completions for 264 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also rushed six times for 51 yards in the contest.
The Titans’ O-line is going to have to figure things out quickly if they plan to protect Mariota Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have the second-best passing defense in the NFL and they have the second most sacks on opposing QBs with 29 already this season. Mariota has been sacked at least one time in each of the last four games.
Fantasy impact: Mariota’s season has not been amazing, but he is struggling even more behind his O-line of late. He is maintaining his meek average of 222 passing yards this season, however, his running game has taken a noticeable hit. Before Sunday, Mariota had not rushed for more than eight yards since Week 4. He is struggling too much to hold it together against the bruising Steelers.
