Fantasy football 2017 Week 11: Danny Amendola, start or sit?

Amendola has been largely quiet since his Week 1 blowup. We break down the fantasy implications.

When Julian Edelman went down with a torn ACL in preseason, the prevailing wisdom was that Danny Amendola would take his spot in the New England Patriots’ offense. Amendola had a big Week 1 with 100 yards on six catches, but he’s been mostly quiet since then while battling nagging injuries.

Through eight games, Amendola has 35 catches for 374 yards and a touchdown. He’s settled in as a low-volume possession receiver, averaging only 10.7 yards per catch. Amendola didn’t particularly benefit from Chris Hogan’s absence last week, making only four catches for 36 yards against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy impact: Hogan is expected to miss another week with his shoulder injury, and Amendola has a good matchup with the Oakland Raiders’ weak secondary. However, he’s been hard to trust outside of deep PPR leagues and hasn’t always taken advantage of his opportunities.

Start Amendola at your own risk and be aware of the downsides. Look for Tom Brady to continue feeding targets to Brandin Cooks, Rob Gronkowski, and his small army of pass-catching running backs.

Recommendation: Start if you’re desperate
