Leonard Fournette ruled out for Week 9: Fantasy football implications

The Jaguars running back broke a team rule and will not play. We break down the fantasy impact.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made an unexpected decision on Sunday, ruling running back Leonard Fournette OUT for Sunday’s game vs. the Cincinnati Bengals. Ian Rapoport is reporting Fournette broke a team rule and will be deactivated.

Fantasy football impact: This is huge for fantasy football owners given that he was expected to return from an ankle injury. He will be replaced by some combination of Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon. In Week 7, Ivory led the team with 17 carries, but Yeldon was the much more effective back on his nine carries. Ivory finished the game with 47 yards and a touchdown, but he also lost a fumble. Yeldon finished the game with 122 yards, thanks in part to a 58-yard carry. He also had two receptions for 15 yards.

This is not an ideal decision to make. The Bengals run defense is middle of the road, but you have to roll the dice on who to start. If Ivory is owned by another team, Yeldon is worth a roll of the dice if you are short-handed this week. Yeldon was active for the first time in Week 7, and likely earned a big opportunity with Fournette out. We recommend Yeldon over Ivory, but it’s a gamble.
