The Los Angeles Rams made a stunning trade for Sammy Watkins before the season started, seemingly adding a new No. 1 receiver for Jared Goff to work with. That hasn’t quite been the case, though.
Through 13 games, Watkins has just 34 catches for 549 yards, tending to disappear for long stretches while Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp emerged as Goff’s preferred weapons. However, he has a knack for finding the end zone, with seven touchdowns on the year and five in his last six games.
Fantasy impact: The touchdowns have done a lot to salvage his value, but Watkins remains a low-volume option. Goff simply doesn’t look his way enough to be a consistent fantasy option.
That could happen again this week, with Woods coming back from a shoulder injury while the Rams face the Seattle Seahawks. The last time these teams met in Week 7, Watkins was erased by Richard Sherman, putting up a goose egg in the box score. Sherman won’t be around this time, so Watkins might actually get some targets, but he’s still a major touchdown-or-bust risk. Woods and Kupp are the safer bets in this offense.
