Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington caught two passes for 35 yards in the team’s Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions. With teammate David Johnson (wrist) sidelined for at least two months, Ellington will be counted on in passing down situations to help move the ball down the field.
He will also have to share time in the backfield Kerwynn Williams and the newly signed Chris Johnson. Of the two, Williams will get most of the early down work. Johnson may just get a carry once in a while to give his teammates a break. That’s especially true given he just signed his contract.
Fantasy impact: Ellington’s fantasy value definitely gets an uptick in PPR leagues. He’s got the athletic ability to make things happen on a limited number of touches. In standard formats, he’s probably not worth holding onto at this point. Perhaps if another back goes down, it’ll be a different story.
Recommendation: Adding Ellington to your roster would a speculative move right now. Sure, he may pop up some big numbers against the Colts, but it’s probably worth waiting another week before putting him in your starting lineup.
