Tiger Woods took questions in a press conference at Torrey Pines on Wednesday, the day before teeing off in the Farmers Insurance Open. Questions were far ranging from his mind set, to his pairing with 2008 U.S. Open foe Rocco Mediate, to his new foray into the world of Twitter.
In regards to his play, and his swing, Woods was optimistic, and thinks the way the 2010 season ended for him was a good sign for 2011.
The whole year came down to the approach shot at the 72nd hole of Chevron. “Under the most intense pressure, having to hit that 8-iron and stick it, I did it. … As far as my golf swing goes, it was great.”
Of course the last time Woods played and won at Torrey Pines was the U.S. Open in 2008, when he went into a full round playoff with then relative unknown Rocco Mediate. This year, Woods is paired with Mediate and Anthony Kim for the opening round. In regards to this, Woods quipped “I don’t know how the computer did that. They randomly put us together.”
Woods has also been in the news recently for his interactions with fans over Twitter. Woods got plenty of questions regarding that also.
“I’m having fun with Twitter.I obviously don’t tweet as much as Poults does, but it’s new to me. It’s fun. I’m just trying to connect with fans on a different level” through the service, not notch followers in droves."
