Bubba Watson Wins 2012 Masters, Defeating Louis Oosthuizen On Second Playoff Hole

It came down to the second playoff hole, but our champion at Augusta is Bubba Watson, who wins his first green jacket and his first major.

After tying on the first playoff hole on the 18th, the pair of Oosthuizen and Watson headed to the tenth for another sudden death hole. Watson knew his drive was well right off the tee, ending up past the gallery and into a stand of trees, giving Oosthuizen a chance to take the Masters with an accurate drive. Instead, he also hooked the ball, nearly ending up in the woods as well, but instead finding himself on the edge of the rough. And so, one of golf's most prestigious tournaments came down to who could play the best cart golf.

It turned out to be Watson. From the mulch, he spun a masterful shot that used the same spin right that put him in the woods to curl his shot onto the green:

Meanwhile, Oosthuizen couldn't find the green with his second shot and his chip ended up just on the edge of the green. Since Oosthuizen was away, he had to gamble and shoot for par for the tournament. Oosthuizen pushed it juuuuuuuuuuuust a millimeter or two to the right:

The missed shot gave him a bogey and gave Watson the opportunity to two-putt for the win. His first putt left him inches away from the championship, but he took his time to savor the victory and sank the one-footer.
