2013 U.S. Open field: Tiger Woods heads cast of 156 golfers

The 156-player field for the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club is in place, headed by Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy.

The field for the 2013 U.S. Open is officially set, with 156 golfers currently slated to take to Merion Golf Cub in Ardmore, Pa. Kyle Stanley punched his ticket by jumping into the top 60 in the world following a strong showing at The Memorial, while five alternates from sectional qualifying have been added as well; Mike Weir, Harold Varner III, Ryan Palmer, Ryan Yip and Rikard Karlberg.

Being a major tournament, the who's-who of golf will be on hand, including Tiger Woods, last year's winner Webb Simpson, Masters winner Adam Scott, world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, and more.

There are several ways to qualify for the U.S. Open, but exemptions for the regular touring professionals are relatively limited, with sectional qualifiers making up almost half the roster this year. It's a true "open" championship, with anyone holding a 1.4 USGA handicap index technically having a shot to play their way into the field. At 156 players, it's double the field of the Masters and the USGA will send them off split tees in threesomes from sun-up to sun-down on Thursday and Friday before cutting the field in half.

With those five alternates rounding things out Monday morning, here's your full field at the start of the week:
