2013 U.S. Open: Tee times and pairings for rounds 1 and 2

With 52 groups of three, some ugly weather may force the USGA to pull off a logistical miracle this week at Merion.

Drew Hallowell

On Monday morning, the USGA finalized the field of 156 for the 113th United States Open. The completion of the field also filled out the tee sheet, which had been largely set by Mike Davis and company at the end of last week. Tee times and pairings were initially announced Friday, with the USGA tweeting out the marquee group of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott before releasing the complete set of pairings. There were several placeholders, however, but with Monday's addition of five alternates, the 52 threesomes are set for play at Merion.

At 156, it's one of the largest fields all year, and the USGA sends the threesomes off just after dawn. There will be golf from sun-up to sun-down in what is a massive coordination effort to get players through the first two rounds. At Merion, the golfers will warm up on the West Course and then take a shuttle over to the East Course, where they'll tee off on either No. 1 or No. 11. Much like last year at Olympic, the USGA has routed the split tees this year so that there's not an even front nine or back nine. The golfers have been told to allow at least 20 minutes from range to first tee as they work their way over for their start time.

Of course, all of this may be thrown into chaos given the current and forecasted weather for the Philadelphia area. The USGA anticipates potential inclement weather when it schedules the national championship for the mid-Atlantic Northeast region, but this appears to be an extraordinary week. The course had already taken on almost five inches of water in the four days before Monday's practice round. And then Merion was blasted yet again with heavy rains throughout Monday, washing away the day and forcing an impromptu USGA press conference to discuss the ominous forecast and potential logistical changes. There was even a "doomsday scenario" discussed in which a few holes from the West Course would be utilized if some of the holes on the East Course, particularly No. 11, were under water. Davis said this possibility was highly unlikely, as is the implementation of lift, clean, and place -- anathema to everything the USGA holds dear.

There's obviously a lot up in the air, but with those weather caveats, here are the scheduled tee times for Thursday and Friday at Merion:
