It took Rory McIlroy just two holes to answer Jordan Spieth’s thrilling hole-out from a bunker on No. 18 at Whistling Straits.
After the three-shot swing that resulted from Spieth’s birdie as McIlroy double-bogeyed the difficult par-4 18th, the world No. 1 drained his third shot on No. 2 (his 11th hole of the day) for an eagle.
Rory, who stole a kind of "anything you can do … " glance over at his rival, climbed back into contention with one chip. The trio, which included Zach Johnson, moved to the third hole (they started on the 10th) with Spieth (4-under) just two shots back of leader Dustin Johnson and McIlroy at 2-under.
