FedEx St. Jude Championship Preview

With a $20 million purse and a $3.6 million first-place check — let the FedEx Cup playoffs begin!

Money is not the only thing on the line this week, but 2,000 FedEx Cup points for the winner. Players want to get inside that Top 50 to play in next week’s BMW Championship and prolong their season at least one more week.

However, the ultimate goal for those still in the hunt is to make the Top 30 and earn a spot in the Tour Championship field, with $100 million in bonuses.

The best PGA Tour players in the world are in the field this week— world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 2 Xander Schauffele, and No. 3 Rory McIlroy. Those three are just a few of the heavy hitters who will play for big money.

TPC Southwind favors the long hitters, but the key will be keeping the ball in the fairways. Defending champion Lucas Glover will not be in the field, as he finished outside the Top 70.

Max Greyserman is coming off a heartbreaking runner-up finish at the Wyndham Championship. He sits just inside the Top 50 at No. 47. The 29-year-old is playing well right now and likely wants to avenge himself.

Viktor Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup winner, currently sits at No. 57 in the standings. This season has been a struggle for the Norweigan golfer. He has only played in 13 events in 2024, trying to find his swing again.

However, a good finish this week could see him back in Atlanta to defend his title. He got hot last year during the playoffs. Will history repeat itself?

Jordan Spieth is No. 63 in the standings, which feels weird, but he has not had the best season. He missed the cut in two of his last three starts, with a T25 finish at the Open in between. The former Masters winner needs a solid finish to keep his season alive.

Nick Dunlap is a rookie on the PGA Tour and sits at No. 67, which is a shame, given that he has two victories.

He is another to watch for because the kid has won twice this season, as an amateur and a rookie on the PGA Tour. That victory as an amateur, Dunlap did not receive a paycheck or FedEx Cup points, so he sits toward the bottom of the Top 70.

The stakes are high, so expect him to give it all he has.

This week will be a must-watch event because TPC Southwind provides incredible golf.
