Seattle fans cause mini-earthquake during Seahawks-Saints

New, comments

The Seattle Seahawks are the world's most seismically active fanbase.

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

We already knew that the Seattle Seahawks re-broke the Guinness World Record for loudest stadium they had already broken earlier in the year, but that wasn't all the FANS DOING CRAZY THINGS IN UNISON they had for the night. They also jumped up and down enough during Michael Bennett's 22-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown that it seemed like a Magnitude 1-2 earthquake.

A look at the graph, included in that Seattle Times piece:

Of course, Seahawks fans had previously done this during Marshawn Lynch's famed BEAST MODE run. Apparently, the University of Washington has a seismograph in a warehouse a block away from CenturyLink Field, and these two sports things have caused it to go off.

Thoughts:

1) The University of Washington always being so quick to figure this out CONFIRMS that the dude in their seismology department is constantly just tracking this stuff with the game on.

2) I know West Coast = tectonic plates = earthquakes = seismographs needed, but can't we get more seismographs near NFL stadiums? I want to know which fanbase has the most/fattest/most excited fans, much as Guinness has tracked decibels.

3) YES I ONLY WANTED TO DO THIS POST SO I COULD INCLUDE THE BEGINNING OF THE STRAIGHT-TO-DVD EARTHQUAKE MOVIE 10.5: APOCALYPSE
