The Padres, somewhat famously, do not have a cycle in franchise history. The Marlins are the other team without a cycle, but the Padres have been around for 45 years. On Wednesday, Tommy Medica was a single away from the cycle in the ninth inning, but he came up short. Oh, well. Next time.
The appeal is in for Medica's error in 2nd inning. How weird would that be for first #Padres cycle?— Jeff Sanders (@JeffSanders_UT) May 30, 2014
The play in question:
Error. But I feel bad for Medica because that was certainly hit hard enough to be a hit. Still, it's an error. Not as far as the Padres are concerned, though. They want that cycle so bad, they're willing to get it through the magic of bureaucracy. I can't wait to see the bobblehead commemorating this one.
