Auburn defensive end Dee Ford wasn't in New York to take the stage when the Chiefs took him with the 23rd pick in Thursday night's first round of the NFL Draft. He was at a draft night party with family and friends in Alabama, and as AL.com tells it, when Ford got the call from Andy Reid, he rushed out of a private room to put the conversation on speaker phone for all his loved ones.
You can hear all of that here, from Reid's mumbly sidebar about the history of defensive players also playing the piano like Ford does (and did soon afterward) to quicker conversations with Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. It's all really, really nice, if teasingly prolonged for a kid and his folks who just wanted to celebrate.
