The ever-loquacious Marshawn Lynch has been granted a trademark by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase "I'm Just Here So I Won't Get Fined."
Lynch, you might recall, dropped the phrase in response to 25 different questions during a Media Day event before the 2015 Super Bowl. It was a show of resistance by the Seattle Seahawks running back, who has long been reluctant to speak to media but was required to address reporters at Media Day or else -- you guessed it -- face a fine from the NFL.
He was fined $50,000 for refusing to speak to media after a Week 11 loss last year, and an additional $75,000 for ducking reporters following the NFC Championship. His infamous Media Day performance came two weeks later (and saved him from further fines).
Lynch filed the request for a trademark just weeks after the Super Bowl. He also holds trademarks for two other Lynchian catchphrases: "Beast Mode" and "About that action BOSS."
