Gregg Popovich doesn't show off his sensitive side much, but he got emotional during Thursday's game against the Grizzlies because it was the first time he's had to work with Craig Sager in some time as the TNT sideline reporter has fought through leukemia. Sager interviewed the Spurs' coach after the first quarter of their game went much differently than your standard in-game Popovich interview:
Here's what they had to say:
Popovich: I gotta honestly tell you, this is the first time I've enjoyed doing this ridiculous interview we're required to do, and it's because you're here and you're back with us. Welcome back, baby.
Sager: Well thank you very much, I laid in the hospital for months hoping to do this again.
Popovich: Now ask me a couple of inane questions.
Sager: Okay, with less than four minutes to go in the first quarter you benched your entire first unit. Was that back-to-back or upset with the way they played?
Popovich: No, they played like crap, so we put in different guys. You'd have done the same thing.
Sager: You're shooting under 35 percent, are you happy with the shot selection?
Popovich: Happy? Am I happy?
Sager: I've heard that before. I'm happy to see you.
Popovich: You too baby, love you.
