Ludicrous things happening at the drag strip are nothing new, but you’ve never seen anything quite like what happened with a funny car during an NHRA event in Las Vegas.
Midway through the race, Cruz Pedregon’s car lifted off the track and had no wheels on it at all. The only thing that kept it stuck to the track at all was the small wheelie bar used to keep it from flipping over. The announcers were losing it, stunned by what they’d seen. As they note, any over-correction would have caused a disaster -- but Pedregon had the wherewithal to play it cool and keep the car under control.
What an amazing moment.
