Before the Vikings-Lions Thanksgiving game, fans were treated to a stirring and soulful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Aretha Franklin. She’s sung it many, many, many times, but this one was exceptional, as it took around 4 minutes and 30 seconds to get from the first piano note to the last (I timed it using audio editing software). It might be one of the best performances ever captured on video, but the internet wasn’t having it, because 4:30 is apparently too long.
I was able to do all my Christmas shopping while Aretha sang the national anthem #happythanksgiving— Strombone (@strombone1) November 24, 2016
Does anyone have Aretha Franklin's entire version of the national anthem or is the video still exporting? pic.twitter.com/wSP5JulreD— Beatrice E. Peterson (@MissBeaE) November 24, 2016
I went out the room for a couple of minutes and Aretha Franklin was still performing the American national anthem #longestanthemever— Stuart (@stuart_thfc) November 24, 2016

Was it the longest national anthem performance ever? Maybe. Was it horrible? Far from it. Y’all, Aretha Franklin did not pull a Bleeding Gums Murphy here, it wasn’t that long.
Not everyone hated it though. Plenty of people saw the beauty in that performance.
If Aretha Franklin singing the national anthem didn't bring a tear to your eye, you just hate everything. Good luck. Happy Thanksgiving.— Don Schlitz (@don4adollar) November 24, 2016
Aretha Franklin. Wow. Most beautiful and moving rendition of the national anthem I've ever heard. Tears in my eyes. Amazing.— patrick cerone (@patcerone) November 24, 2016
Aretha Franklin just did the national anthem like capital-C Church. (Forget civil religion problems on that—Just go watch and enjoy!)— Chris Ridgeway (@ridgewaychris) November 24, 2016
Aretha Franklin is a legend. She’s Detroit royalty. To echo ESPN’s Michelle Beadle, no need to rush Aretha — embrace her.
Nobody rushes Aretha. Nobody. We've got all the time.— Michelle Beadle (@MichelleDBeadle) November 24, 2016
