Presidential candidate Donald Trump took time on Monday night to turn his attention to the New England Patriots. Trump said that quarterback Tom Brady called him and confirmed that he did vote for Trump, while the candidate himself read a letter sent to him by Patriots coach Bill Belichick to voice his support and state that he hoped Trump could “Make America Great Again.”
Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully. You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow’s election results will give the opportunity to make America great again.
Best wishes for great results tomorrow,
Immediately following the speech, there were doubts about whether the letter was real, but now multiple sources in New England are verifying that the letter sent by Belichick was accurate.
Bill Belichick did indeed write Donald Trump a letter. The letter Trump read from Belichick is accurate. Those were Bill's words. #WBZ— STEVE BURTON (@STEVEBURTONWBZ) November 8, 2016
However, Belichick wasn’t aware that his letter would be read on live TV in front of huge crowds and a massive television audience.
Very good source: yes Belichick sent the letter. No, he had no idea it would be read out loud. Play with snakes, get bitten.— Dave Zirin (@EdgeofSports) November 8, 2016
The Patriots coach hasn’t spoken publicly since his letter was read -- and he probably won’t.
