Temple took the New York subway to their NCAA Tournament game

Next stop: Barclays Center.

UConn basketball takes the stairs, and so does Temple — down to the subway.

The Owls took the New York subway from Grand Central to their first-round NCAA Tournament game against Iowa in Brooklyn on Friday, and the team looked cool doing it. Coach Fran Dunphy stood, letting his players rest their legs before hitting the court.

Apparently, Temple is used to it, as the team often takes public transportation to games at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Owls used the subway to get to practice Thursday, too.

It's tradition.

"These are our roots," Dunphy said last year. "Temple people ride the subway to go to school, go to class, and go to their jobs."

By opting not to hail a charter bus, Temple really is the "team of the people."
