Posting on Snapchat helped new Seattle DT Tony McDaniel get a deal with the team

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Tony McDaniel on Monday. It was a move that didn't generate many waves. McDaniel is a reserve tackle who isn't guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. But, he does have an opportunity to make the roster. One that he may not have had he not posted his travel plans on Snapchat.

McDaniel posted a photo of the Atlanta airport last week on his Snapchat account. His agent, David Carter, saw the photo and asked McDaniel where he was headed. McDaniel told Carter he was headed to Seattle to visit some family and friends. Carter used that as an opportunity to get his client a workout with the Seahawks. Via Sheil Kapadia, ESPN:

"I said to [the Seahawks] last week, 'Hey, Tony's going to be in town. It's a free workout. Worst-case scenario, you bring him in, he looks like crap, he stays home. You don't even have to pay for a flight.' "

The Seahawks were very familiar with McDaniel after he played a key role for the team in 2013 and 2014. They were also in need of some defensive line depth thanks to injuries. The result was an opportunity to make the roster, all because he posted on Snapchat.
