Since the passing of Jose Fernandez, the outpouring of support has been nothing shy of astonishing. His story hits home with all of those who knew him and those who loved him from afar. Aledmys Diaz, who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals, was one of Jose’s best friends, having played baseball together since they were young and living in Cuba.

Devastated at Jose’s passing, Diaz missed Sunday’s and Monday’s games to spend time in Miami with Fernandez’s family. On Tuesday he returned to his team to try to play the game as Jose would have played it. So he hit the first grand slam of his career.

This all coming one day after Dee Gordon also hit his first home run of the year in the Marlin’s first game after Jose’s passing. Jose will continue to live on forever in the hearts of his friends and family through the game of baseball that he loved so much.
