The best ‘Simpsons’ sports episode ever is getting its own documentary, and the trailer is wonderful

New, comments

FOR THE LAST TIME GET RID OF THOSE SIDEBURNS!

If you’re a fan of “Homer at Bat,” objectively the best sports episode of The Simpsons ever, then you’re in for a treat. FOX will be airing a comedic documentary about the episode titled Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson. The teaser for it looks incredible.

Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me fame is directing the documentary, which will focus on how the Springfield nuclear power plant beat Shelbyville thanks to Homer’s heroics (by getting hit in the head). It will span from Homer creating “Wonderbat” to Ken Griffey Jr.’s gigantism, and beyond.

Ozzie Smith, Jose Canseco, and Roger Clemens, who guest-starred in the episode, will appear along with characters from the show. In addition, there are many commentators from outside the show sharing their feelings, including Joe Buck, Russell Brand, Dr. Oz, Tim Gunn, and Bill de Blasio.

Deadspin did an amazing non-comedic piece on the making of the episode, which is absolutely worth your time.

The documentary will air on Sunday immediately following 1 p.m. ET NFL games, or at 3 p.m. in markets that have a 4 p.m. game.
