Amazon's Alexa throws shade at the Thunder for leaving Seattle

Your Amazon Echo probably knows you pretty well at this point, but how much do you know about it? Do you know what its hobbies and interests are? More importantly, do you know what sports teams it roots for?

You should ask sometime. You might get a surprising response.

If you ask Alexa what its favorite basketball team is, it’s going to throw some shade but it is honest about its roundball preferences. Alexa will say its favorite team is the Seattle Supersonics, which left Seattle in favor of Oklahoma City in 2008. They are now the Thunder. Most Seattle fans will tell you that the Thunder and Sonics are completely different franchises, and Alexa might agree with that.

What’s more telling about Alexa’s answer is that it coyly sneaks in how the Oklahoma City Thunder came to be:

“Well, my favorite team was the Seattle Supersonics before the were stolen .. I mean relocated. Now, I’m rooting for the Minnesota Timberwolves but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming. Bring back the Sonics.”

Clay Bennett moved the team from Seattle to Oklahoma City after buying the franchise from Howard Schultz, despite saying publicly that he wanted to keep the team in the Pacific Northwest.

For what it’s worth, Alexa is also a fan of the Seattle Seahawks. This is probably because Amazon is based in Seattle (but for some reason it’s a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and not the Mariners). As for the newfound allegiance to the Timberwolves, it might be the color scheme. We’re sure Alexa loves the new Timberwolves jerseys. They look just like what I imagine a Seahawks basketball team unis would look like.

There’s still hope for Alexa. Adam Silver recently said that Seattle is near the top of the list when the NBA finally decides to expand to new cities.
